Leur but : attendre Godot, un \u00e9nigmatique<br \/>\n    personnage dont on se saura jamais rien. Ils ne savent pas quand<br \/>\n    il viendra, ni m\u00eame s\u2019il viendra vraiment. Ils ignorent si<br \/>\n    l\u2019arbre sous lequel ils attendent est le bon, si le jour est<br \/>\n    celui du rendez-vous. Ils sont simplement convaincus qu\u2019ils<br \/>\n    doivent attendre. Pour passer le temps, ils dialoguent sans but<br \/>\n    pr\u00e9cis. Faisant diversion dans cette attente intol\u00e9rable, un<br \/>\n    couple survient : Pozzo et Lucky. Ce dernier, harnach\u00e9 au cou,<br \/>\n    porte les bagages de l\u2019autre, qui le conduit au fouet. Apr\u00e8s<br \/>\n    leur d\u00e9part, le temps passe toujours, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019un<br \/>\n    jeune gar\u00e7on vienne annoncer \u00e0 Vladimir et Estragon que Godot<br \/>\n    ne viendra pas. Les deux compagnons d\u00e9cident de se s\u00e9parer et<br \/>\n    de partir, mais ils ne bougent pas. Fin du premier acte. Le<br \/>\n    deuxi\u00e8me acte reproduira essentiellement le m\u00eame sch\u00e9ma.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <span style=\"font-size: large;\">   <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\">C\u2019est<br \/>\nentre le 9 octobre 1948 et le 29 janvier 1949<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blogger.com\/blogger.g?blogID=5838876574728983690#sdfootnote2sym\" name=\"sdfootnote2anc\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a>,<br \/>\ndonc assez rapidement, que Samuel Beckett a r\u00e9dig\u00e9 <i>En attendant<br \/>\nGodot<\/i>. Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 longtemps r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9e, apr\u00e8s plusieurs<br \/>\nrefus, la pi\u00e8ce est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e pour la premi\u00e8re fois le 3<br \/>\njanvier 1953. Roger Blin en assure la mise en sc\u00e8ne au petit Th\u00e9\u00e2tre<br \/>\nde Babylone. C\u2019est d\u2019abord un succ\u00e8s de scandale. Applaudie par<br \/>\nune classe intellectuelle avide de nouveaut\u00e9, condamn\u00e9e par un<br \/>\npublic parisien qui n\u2019y comprend rien, la pi\u00e8ce suscite des<br \/>\npassions contradictoires. Mais peu importe ce qu\u2019on en dit, Beckett<br \/>\nest devenu c\u00e9l\u00e8bre. Depuis, la pi\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 acclam\u00e9e dans le<br \/>\nmonde entier et traduite dans une vingtaine de langues.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <b><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">   <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><i>En<br \/>\nattendant Godot <\/i>est une pi\u00e8ce sur la vacuit\u00e9, le vide de<br \/>\nl\u2019existence, l\u2019absurdit\u00e9 de la condition humaine. <span style=\"font-size: large;\">   <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\">Beckett<br \/>\na toujours refus\u00e9 les interpr\u00e9tations de ses \u0153uvres. Et pourtant,<br \/>\ns\u2019il est une \u0153uvre qui a subi les analyses de toutes sortes,<br \/>\nparfois abusives, c\u2019est bien <i>En attendant Godot<\/i>. On a pr\u00eat\u00e9<br \/>\nbien des visages \u00e0 Godot, personnage absent mais central. Toute<br \/>\nl\u2019action dramatique est construite autour de lui. Quelques indices<br \/>\ndans le texte nous le pr\u00e9sentent comme un homme d\u2019affaires, qui a<br \/>\nune famille, un cheval, un compte en banque, une barbe blanche. Il<br \/>\ncrie et semble brutal : il bat le fr\u00e8re du jeune gar\u00e7on qui<br \/>\nappara\u00eet \u00e0 la fin des deux actes. On a souvent associ\u00e9 Godot \u00e0<br \/>\nDieu. Le nom m\u00eame serait une d\u00e9rivation de l\u2019anglais <i>God<\/i>.<br \/>\nComme Dieu, Godot est myst\u00e9rieux, cach\u00e9, inaccessible. De plus,<br \/>\ndans le texte, on fait souvent allusion \u00e0 la religion. Selon<br \/>\nl\u2019interpr\u00e9tation th\u00e9ologique, <b>la pi\u00e8ce serait \u00e0 lire comme<br \/>\nla trag\u00e9die d\u2019une humanit\u00e9 d\u00e9chue qui attend d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9ment la<br \/>\nvenue d\u2019un Sauveur<\/b>. Et seul le r\u00e9tablissement d\u2019un lien avec<br \/>\nla divinit\u00e9 peut donner un sens \u00e0 la vie de l\u2019homme. C\u2019est ce<br \/>\nqu\u2019esp\u00e8rent Vladimir et Estragon.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;    <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\">M\u00eame<br \/>\ns\u2019il est vrai que la figure de Dieu peut \u00eatre suscit\u00e9e par le<br \/>\ntexte, cette interpr\u00e9tation demeure r\u00e9ductrice. D\u2019ailleurs,<br \/>\n<b>Beckett a toujours ni\u00e9 cette association quand on le questionnait<br \/>\nsur le sens de l\u2019oeuvre : \u00absi Godot \u00e9tait Dieu, je l\u2019aurais<br \/>\nappel\u00e9 par ce nom \u00bb<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blogger.com\/blogger.g?blogID=5838876574728983690#sdfootnote3sym\" name=\"sdfootnote3anc\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a><\/b>.<br \/>\nDans les faits, il ne faut voir en Godot qu\u2019une figure imaginaire<br \/>\nqui symbolise tout ce qui pourrait venir donner un sens \u00e0 une<br \/>\nexistence absurde. Bref, Godot incarne ce que chacun attend et qui ne<br \/>\nvient jamais. Savoir qui est Godot pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment n\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs<br \/>\npas ce qui importe dans cette \u0153uvre. Comme Vladimir et Estragon, l\u2019\u00eatre humain attend une<br \/>\nd\u00e9livrance, cherche un sens \u00e0 la vie. Mais en attendant il souffre,<br \/>\npasse le temps en <b>conversations creuses<\/b>, il joue. Son<br \/>\nquotidien est travers\u00e9 de rencontres et de divertissements<br \/>\ninsatisfaisants. Le rire et l\u2019humour sont importants dans le texte<br \/>\nde Beckett. Les nombreuses didascalies qui ponctuent les<br \/>\ncourtes r\u00e9pliques par des silences et des temps accentuent la<br \/>\ndistance dans les \u00e9changes. D\u2019ailleurs, <b>le silence est aussi<br \/>\nimportant que la parole<\/b> dans l\u2019\u00e9criture de Beckett. Ils ont aussi les<br \/>\ncaract\u00e9ristiques <b>des duos de clowns comiques<\/b>. Les deux personnages entretiennent une<br \/>\nrelation ma\u00eetre-esclave, dominant-domin\u00e9, \u00e0 la limite sado-maso.<br \/>\nPozzo est le ma\u00eetre, content de lui, vaniteux, cruel. Mais au fond<br \/>\nc\u2019est un mis\u00e9rable, cardiaque, puis aveugle et impotent dans le<br \/>\ndeuxi\u00e8me acte. Lucky est le serviteur soumis, le porteur pitoyable.<br \/>\nIl ob\u00e9it et souffre en silence, mais est satisfait de sa condition.<br \/>\nIl est \u00ab chanceux \u00bb (en anglais \u00ab lucky \u00bb) puisque, contrairement<br \/>\naux autres, il n\u2019a pas \u00e0 chercher comment passer le temps : Pozzo<br \/>\nlui dit quoi faire et il le fait. Il n\u2019esp\u00e8re plus rien. La<br \/>\ncruaut\u00e9 qui caract\u00e9rise la relation entre Pozzo et Lucky leur<br \/>\nrappelle qu\u2019ils existent. La d\u00e9pendance est donc r\u00e9ciproque : le<br \/>\nbourreau a besoin de sa victime et vice versa. On a souvent dit que<br \/>\nle duo symbolisait les rapports de domination dans un monde d\u00e9chu,<br \/>\no\u00f9 violence et d\u00e9pendance se marient facilement. Ce vide<br \/>\nsc\u00e9nique est d\u2019ailleurs angoissant pour Vladimir et Estragon, qui<br \/>\nne savent jamais s\u2019ils sont au bon endroit pour rencontrer Godot.<br \/>\nSans r\u00e9f\u00e9rence spatiale, les personnages sont condamn\u00e9s \u00e0<br \/>\nl\u2019errance. L\u2019espace se r\u00e9duit \u00e0 un point fixe : l\u2019arbre, le<br \/>\nlieu du rendez-vous. Cet arbre est rabougri, d\u00e9nud\u00e9 au premier<br \/>\nacte. Mais deux ou trois feuilles apparaissent au deuxi\u00e8me acte. Le<br \/>\ntemps s\u2019est-il \u00e9coul\u00e9 entre les deux rendez-vous? Y a-t-il eu un<br \/>\nchangement de saison? Ces feuilles sont-elles un signe d\u2019espoir? Ou<br \/>\nsignifient-elles tout simplement le recommencement \u00e9ternel de la<br \/>\nvie? C\u2019est peut-\u00eatre un peu tout \u00e7a \u00e0 la fois. On parlera de circularit\u00e9 dans la mesure o\u00f9 la fin<br \/>\ndes deux actes, donc la fin de la pi\u00e8ce elle-m\u00eame, semble nous<br \/>\nramener au commencement.<\/b> On imagine ais\u00e9ment la m\u00eame sc\u00e8ne se<br \/>\nreproduisant jour apr\u00e8s jour. <b>L\u2019impossibilit\u00e9 de se sortir de<br \/>\nl\u2019attente, du n\u00e9ant se manifeste donc dans la structure m\u00eame de<br \/>\nla pi\u00e8ce.<\/b> Les deux actes suivent un plan quasi identique :<br \/>\nretrouvailles de Vladimir et Estragon, venue de Pozzo et Lucky,<br \/>\nmessage final du gar\u00e7on et d\u00e9cision de partir. Un syst\u00e8me de<br \/>\nr\u00e9p\u00e9titions internes de phrases, de th\u00e8mes, de situations vient<br \/>\nrenforcer cette structure. Toutefois, le deuxi\u00e8me acte pr\u00e9sente<br \/>\nquelques \u00e9l\u00e9ments nouveaux : quelques feuilles apparaissent dans<br \/>\nl\u2019arbre, le tandem Pozzo et Lucky est passablement transform\u00e9. La<br \/>\nr\u00e9p\u00e9tition dans la structure n\u2019est donc pas un retour absolu \u00e0<br \/>\nla case d\u00e9part. Mais il demeure que le d\u00e9nouement conventionnel du<br \/>\ntexte dramatique classique est d\u00e9samorc\u00e9. Durant cette p\u00e9riode, il \u00e9crit trois nouvelles,<br \/>\ntrois romans et ses deux premi\u00e8res pi\u00e8ces dont <i>En attendant<br \/>\nGodot<\/i>, entre octobre 1948 et janvier 1949. <\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\" style=\"margin: 0.5cm 3cm;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\">\u00ab&nbsp;Je<br \/>\nme suis mis \u00e0 \u00e9crire des pi\u00e8ces pour me sortir de la d\u00e9pression<br \/>\nnoire o\u00f9 me plongeait le roman. Ma vie \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque \u00e9tait trop<br \/>\n\u00e9prouvante, trop affreuse; je pensais que le th\u00e9\u00e2tre ferait<br \/>\ndiversion.&nbsp;\u00bb<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blogger.com\/blogger.g?blogID=5838876574728983690#sdfootnote15sym\" name=\"sdfootnote15anc\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;    <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\">C\u2019est<br \/>\nSuzanne qui se charge de trouver les maisons d\u2019\u00e9dition pour ses<br \/>\nromans et les th\u00e9\u00e2tres pour ses pi\u00e8ces. Beckett, lui, termine<br \/>\nl\u2019\u00e9criture de <i>L\u2019innommable <\/i>qui, avec <i>Molloy <\/i>et<br \/>\n<i>Malone meurt<\/i>, compl\u00e8te une trilogie romanesque dans laquelle<br \/>\nse trouvent l\u2019essentiel des th\u00e8mes apparaissant dans <i>En<br \/>\nattendant Godot<\/i>. En effet, les personnages sont r\u00e9duits \u00e0 leur<br \/>\nplus simple expression et en qu\u00eate d\u2019une signification de<br \/>\nl\u2019existence. Et le tout est abord\u00e9 avec le rire.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;    <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\">En<br \/>\n1953, <i>En attendant Godot <\/i>est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 devant le public de<br \/>\nParis. Samuel Beckett devient un auteur c\u00e9l\u00e8bre et reconnu. Quatre<br \/>\nans plus tard, son succ\u00e8s est confirm\u00e9 avec <i>Fin de partie <\/i>et<br \/>\nne sera plus jamais d\u00e9menti. \u00c0 partir de 1956, il op\u00e8re un retour<br \/>\n\u00e0 l\u2019anglais, dans lequel il publiera la plupart de ses nouvelle<br \/>\npi\u00e8ces : <i>Krapp\u2019s last tape <\/i>(<i>La Derni\u00e8re Bande<\/i>,<br \/>\n1958), <i>Happy Days <\/i>(<i>Oh ! les beaux jours<\/i>, 1960), <i>Come<br \/>\nand go <\/i>(<i>Va-et-vient<\/i>, 1965). Par contre, il continue<br \/>\nd\u2019\u00e9crire des r\u00e9cits et des romans en fran\u00e7ais.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\">Beckett<br \/>\ns\u2019est aussi illustr\u00e9 \u00e0 la radio, \u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision, au cin\u00e9ma.<br \/>\nIl a \u00e9crit des pi\u00e8ces radiophoniques, une \u0153uvre t\u00e9l\u00e9visuelle et,<br \/>\nen 1964, un sc\u00e9nario pour le cin\u00e9ma, <i>Film<\/i>, dont le r\u00f4le<br \/>\nprincipal \u00e9tait interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par Buster Keaton. En 1969, Beckett se<br \/>\nvoit d\u00e9cerner le prix Nobel de litt\u00e9rature pour l\u2019ensemble de son \u0153uvre. Mais il refuse de se rendre \u00e0 Stockholm pour le recevoir.<br \/>\nPar la suite, ses textes se feront de plus en plus rares et de plus<br \/>\nen plus courts. Il vit en r\u00e9clusion les derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es de sa<br \/>\nvie. Suzanne meurt le 17 juillet 1989. Il la suivra quelques mois<br \/>\nplus tard, le 22 d\u00e9cembre 1989.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;    <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\">Toute<br \/>\nsa vie il aura eu en horreur que l\u2019on s\u2019int\u00e9resse \u00e0 sa<br \/>\npersonne. De cet exil\u00e9 volontaire, ayant connu la pr\u00e9carit\u00e9<br \/>\nmat\u00e9rielle et physique une bonne partie de son existence, de ce<br \/>\ntourment\u00e9, il ne faudrait retenir que son travail. Il consid\u00e8re que<br \/>\nsa vie est terne et sans int\u00e9r\u00eat.
